Safe Harbor Crisis Stabilization Center
Safe Harbor is a 24-hour safe place providing crisis stabilization and case management for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis but don’t meet the criteria for hospitalization. Safe Harbor crisis stabilization is a key component in the statewide development of a comprehensive adult mental health system and meeting the need for core services which are needed implemented statewide. Local implementation in southwest Iowa and Dallas County, Iowa is led by Heart of Iowa Community Services Mental Health Region.

Crisis Stabilization Residential Services
The purpose of the Safe Harbor Center is to reduce the number of people who, during a mental health crisis, are voluntarily hospitalized or inappropriately incarcerated.
Safe Harbor Crisis Stabilization Center is in place with the intent to provide a more effective approach to mental health crisis treatment and to reduce health care costs.
Individuals typically stay at Safe Harbor Crisis Center less than one week. During that time, they are connected to a network of appropriate community resources to assist in their recovery.
Transitional Living Program
The purpose of the transitional living program is to provide short term housing for an individual coming out of placement or hospitalization who needs to redevelop skills to be successful in the community.
Individuals who are living with mental health or disabilities will be paired with a variety of service providers to assist them to reach their highest levels of independence.
Mobile Crisis Response Team
The Mobile Crisis Response Team provides emergency crisis assessment and intervention services to Iowa residents in conjunction with law enforcement. The mobile crisis team can be contacted through 911 or local law enforcement dispatch offices.
MCRT, in conjunction with law enforcement agencies, provides short term crisis assessment and intervention to individuals or all ages who are experiencing a mental health crisis regardless of insurance status.
